アルブラ鉄道 (前面展望) Preda- Bergün

庭園鉄道 は、鉄道模型の一種で、庭など屋外で楽しむ鉄道模型のことである。英語ではgarden railroad (railway)などという。そもそもはイギリスの貴族が庭に15インチゲージの鉄道をひいて楽しんだことが始まりといわれる。

概要
人が乗れる乗用鉄道（3.5インチゲージ以上）と人が乗れないGゲージなどに分けることができる。 レール・枕木等に十分な耐候性が必要であり、一般的な乗用鉄道（3.5インチゲージ以上）は鉄やアルミ、ステンレス鋼製を用い、乗用でないGゲージなどでは耐食黄銅やステンレス鋼製を用いる。また、枕木では木やプラスチックを使用することもあるが、その材質も紫外線に対して耐えうることが必要条件である。雨による土ハネや落葉による障害を防ぐため、砕石を敷いてバラストとしたり、コンクリート等で舗装したり、ある程度の高架鉄道にする例が多い。しかし、乗用鉄道では、わざと過酷な環境に敷設して、ちょっとした廃線跡のようにする楽しみ方もある。

Gゲージではドイツのレーマン社のLGBやアメリカのバックマン、アリストクラフトなどが有名であり、乗用鉄道ではモデルニクス、小川精機(OS)、技功舎、動輪舎、ニイザキ・モデルエンジニアリングなどが有名である。

The Bachmann starter sets represent excellent value, even if they may be a little old-timey for your taste. The other companies make trains that are more solid, and the costs reflect that to some extent. Regardless of your choice, if you start with a relatively inexpensive set, you can let other people's children run it later without worrying that they're going to destroy an expensive collectors' item. The main thing is to get started.
